Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/3 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup diced apple
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl.
- Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in diced apple.
- In another bowl, mix milk, egg, and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients.
- Mix just until combined. Do not overwork.
- Turn dough onto floured surface. Pat into a 1-inch thick circle.
- Cut into 8 wedges. Place on baking sheet.
- Bake 15-18 minutes until golden.
- Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk for glaze. Drizzle over warm scones.
Notes
- Use cold butter for flaky texture.
- Do not overmix the dough.
- Best served fresh but can be stored for 2 days.
