Description
A classic Italian-American pasta dish with layers of ziti pasta, rich marinara sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella cheese
Ingredients

- 1 pound ziti pasta
- 24 ounces marinara sauce
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C)
- Cook ziti pasta according to package directions until al dente
- Drain pasta and set aside
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, basil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce in a 9×13 inch baking dish
- Add half the cooked pasta over the sauce
- Spread all the ricotta mixture over the pasta
- Add remaining pasta over the ricotta layer
- Pour remaining marinara sauce over the top
- Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes
- Remove foil and bake for 10 more minutes until cheese is golden
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving
Notes
- You can add cooked ground beef or Italian sausage for a meat version
- Fresh basil leaves make a nice garnish
- Leftovers reheat well in the oven or microwave
