Description

A classic Italian-American pasta dish with layers of ziti pasta, rich marinara sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella cheese


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C)
  2. Cook ziti pasta according to package directions until al dente
  3. Drain pasta and set aside
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, basil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper
  5. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce in a 9×13 inch baking dish
  6. Add half the cooked pasta over the sauce
  7. Spread all the ricotta mixture over the pasta
  8. Add remaining pasta over the ricotta layer
  9. Pour remaining marinara sauce over the top
  10. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce
  11. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes
  12. Remove foil and bake for 10 more minutes until cheese is golden
  13. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving

Notes

  • You can add cooked ground beef or Italian sausage for a meat version
  • Fresh basil leaves make a nice garnish
  • Leftovers reheat well in the oven or microwave
