Description

Delicious chocolate cupcakes decorated to look like black cats, perfect for Halloween or any spooky occasion.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Black icing
  • Candy eyes
  • Yellow or green candy for pupils
  • Black licorice for whiskers

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add water, vegetable oil, vinegar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Fill cupcake liners 2/3 full with batter.
  5. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  6. Frost cooled cupcakes with black icing.
  7. Add candy eyes and small pieces of yellow or green candy for pupils.
  8. Cut black licorice into thin strips and insert for whiskers.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for a deep black frosting color.
  • If you can’t find black licorice, use thin strips of fruit leather.
  • Store cupcakes in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
