Description

A delicious caramel apple upside-down cake with tender apples and rich caramel topping.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt butter in a pan, add brown sugar and stir until smooth.
  3. Pour caramel mixture into a greased cake pan.
  4. Arrange apple slices over caramel.
  5. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  6. Beat white sugar and egg until fluffy, then add milk and vanilla.
  7. Combine wet and dry ingredients.
  8. Pour batter over apples.
  9. Bake for 40 minutes or until golden.
  10. Cool for 10 minutes before flipping onto a plate.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith.
  • Check cake with a toothpick before removing from oven.
  • Serve warm with ice cream if desired.
