Description

A rich chocolate cake infused with brown sugar, topped with a spiced pumpkin frosting for a perfect autumn treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch cake pan.
  2. Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  4. Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  5. Pour batter into the pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let cool.
  6. For the frosting, beat cream cheese, pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves until smooth.
  7. Gradually add powdered sugar until desired consistency is reached.
  8. Frost the cooled cake and serve.
