Description

A traditional double-crust apple pie with a flaky crust and sweet cinnamon-spiced filling.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled
  • 68 tbsp ice water
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, diced

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough holds together. Divide into two balls, flatten into disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out one dough disk and fit into a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour into pie crust and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second dough disk and place over the filling. Trim and crimp edges to seal. Cut slits in the top crust.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden and filling is bubbly. Cool before serving.

Notes

  • Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith for best results.
  • Chill the dough to prevent shrinking during baking.
  • Place a baking sheet under the pie to catch drips.
