Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until creamy. Add molasses and egg, mixing well.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with hot water. Mix until smooth.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
