Description

A simple, rustic apple galette with a flaky crust and sweet, spiced apple filling.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 34 tablespoons ice water
  • 3 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until dough comes together. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll dough into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface.
  4. Toss apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Arrange slices in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border.
  5. Fold edges of dough over the apples, pleating as needed. Brush dough with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes until crust is golden and apples are tender. Cool slightly before serving.
