A classic American dessert with spiced apples and a crunchy breadcrumb topping.
Ingredients

- 4 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith or similar)
- 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add melted butter and stir until crumbs are coated.
- Place half the sliced apples in a greased 8-inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle half the crumb mixture over the apples.
- Add remaining apples and top with remaining crumbs.
- Drizzle lemon juice and water over the top.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until apples are tender and topping is golden.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- You can use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
- Swap apples with pears for a variation.
