Description

A classic American dessert with spiced apples and a crunchy breadcrumb topping.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith or similar)
  • 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Add melted butter and stir until crumbs are coated.
  4. Place half the sliced apples in a greased 8-inch baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle half the crumb mixture over the apples.
  6. Add remaining apples and top with remaining crumbs.
  7. Drizzle lemon juice and water over the top.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until apples are tender and topping is golden.
  9. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • You can use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  • Swap apples with pears for a variation.
