Description

A rustic apple galette made with flaky pastry and sweet cinnamon apples. No alcohol, bacon, or ham used.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 4 tablespoons ice water
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until pea-sized. Add ice water and form a dough. Wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment.
  3. Roll dough into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface. Transfer to the baking sheet.
  4. Toss apple slices with sugar and cinnamon. Arrange them in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border.
  5. Fold the edges over the apples. Brush the crust with melted butter.
  6. Bake for 35 minutes until golden and apples are tender. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • You can use any apple variety. Granny Smith works well.
