Description
This is the best homemade lasagna recipe. Layers of pasta, rich meat sauce, creamy cheese, and melted mozzarella. Perfect for a family dinner.

- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until beef is browned. Drain fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese and egg until smooth.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer 4 noodles, then 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 1/3 of the meat sauce, and 1/3 of the mozzarella. Repeat layers twice.
- Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 20 more minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before cutting. This helps the layers hold together.
- You can substitute cottage cheese for ricotta if you prefer.
- For a leaner option, use ground turkey instead of beef.
