Description
Caramel Crunch Bars are a sweet treat with a crunchy base and gooey caramel topping. You make them with simple pantry ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup caramel bits or soft caramels, unwrapped
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla.
- Add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Press dough evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until edges are golden brown. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
- In a small saucepan over low heat, melt caramel bits with heavy cream, stirring frequently until smooth. Pour over the cooled crust and spread evenly.
- Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Drizzle over the caramel layer.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour until set. Cut into bars and serve.
Notes
- Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- For a firmer crunch, use a shortbread-style crust.
