- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add dry ingredients to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
- Spoon batter into prepared pan and smooth top.
- Arrange apple slices on top in a circular pattern.
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over apples.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack.

- Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best texture.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
