Description

Homemade apple cider is a warm, spiced drink made from fresh apples. It is simple to prepare and fills your home with a cozy aroma.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 apples, cored and quartered
  • 1 orange, peeled and quartered
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice berries
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 12 cups water

Instructions

  1. Place apples, orange, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice in a large pot. Add water to cover.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for 2 hours.
  3. Mash the fruit with a potato masher to release juices.
  4. Stir in brown sugar until dissolved.
  5. Simmer uncovered for another hour, stirring occasionally.
  6. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth. Discard solids.
  7. Serve warm or chilled.

Notes
