Description

Crispy fried pickle spirals with a spicy kick. Perfect as a snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 jar dill pickle spears (about 24 oz)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Drain pickles and pat dry. Cut each spear into a spiral by slicing lengthwise in a continuous spiral motion.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg.
  4. Dip each pickle spiral into the buttermilk mixture, then coat in flour mixture. Shake off excess.
  5. Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Fry pickles in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve immediately with ranch or spicy mayo.

Notes

  • Use thick dill pickle spears for best spirals.
  • Adjust cayenne for desired heat.
  • Pat pickles very dry to avoid splattering.
