Description
A simple dessert of baked apples filled with oatmeal. The apples soften as they cook. The oatmeal creates a warm, comforting filling. This recipe uses no alcohol, bacon, or ham.

- 4 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Wash the apples. Cut off the top 1/4 inch of each apple. Use a melon baller or small spoon to core the apples. Leave the bottom intact.
- In a bowl, mix the oats, brown sugar, walnuts, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir in the melted butter.
- Spoon the oatmeal mixture into the apple cavities. Pack it firmly.
- Place the filled apples in a baking dish. Pour the water into the bottom of the dish.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. The apples should be tender when pierced with a fork.
- Let the apples cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute pecans for walnuts.
- Serve with a dollop of yogurt or ice cream if desired.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
