- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
- Stir in melted butter, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour the batter into an ungreased 9-inch square baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine remaining 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the batter.
- Carefully pour boiling water over the top. Do not stir.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the top is golden and the center is set.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For extra richness, use whole milk.
- You can add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon sugar.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
