A classic apple pie with a buttery crust and spiced apple filling. Perfect for dessert or any occasion.

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cold butter, cubed
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 6 cups sliced peeled apples (such as Granny Smith)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for wash)
Instructions
- Mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs form. Add ice water gradually, tossing with a fork until dough holds together.
- Divide dough in half. Flatten into disks, wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in a large bowl. Toss well.
- Roll out one dough disk on a floured surface to 12-inch circle. Place in a 9-inch pie plate.
- Fill with apple mixture.
- Roll out second dough disk. Place over filling. Trim and crimp edges. Cut slits for steam.
- Brush top with beaten egg.
- Bake for 50 minutes, or until golden and filling is bubbly. Cool on wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for best flavor.
- Refrigerate dough well for flaky crust.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
